BCV Quiz Reports

Holy Trinity School Quiz – March 2009

Just one BCV team – the aptly-named Give Ups.  The Musicals round was a distinct let-down – just 2/10 scored, leaving us trailing in the bottom three at one stage, but we did restore some pride at the end with a maximum-scoring Joker round on Abba songs.  Final place: 5th out of 14 teams, score 72 points.  Once again, Emily and Martin both won prizes in the raffle, which this time had a Red Nose theme.

Holy Trinity School Quiz – October 2008

Due to last-minute cancellations, our teams (imaginatively named BCV1 and BCV2) were depleted, and could only manage 9th and 16th places out of 16 teams!  Emily won the star raffle prize of a shopping bag, while Martin won the scary face mask.

Holy Trinity School Quiz – February 2008

A very well-supported quiz – it must be a record attendance, 22 teams in total including two BCV teams – so it was a busy evening for scorer Glyn.  “Hedging Our Bets” finished in equal-fourth place with 93 points out of a possible 110.  “Win Some Lose Some” finished on a respectable 82.  The reverse-bingo prize fund included some Fairtrade chocolate goodies donated by Lawrence … and almost won by Lawrence – one of the last two left standing.

Holy Trinity School Quiz – September 2007

We just had a team of three this time (Martin T, Emily and Richard S – appearing as “Cutting Edge”) as Lawrence was away in Greece, and there didn’t seem to be any other takers.  Despite the depleted team, we still managed to defend our title successfully, winning by 5 points with a score of 88.

Holy Trinity School Quiz – March 2007

BCV fielded two complete teams, and it was the “Billhooks” team of Lawrence, Martin T, Richard S and Emily who emerged the clear overall winners by 3 points with a total score of 94, thanks to a good range of musical knowledge between them (from “Fir” Elise to Holly Valance in the musical trees round) and the odd bit of inspired guesswork (Wishbone Ash).  The team also had a bit of assistance from Shaun, with his knowledge of Chelsea FC and Sonic the Hedgehog (notice the blue theme?). Thanks to Shane for another enjoyable quiz.  The other BCV team “Win Some Lose Some” also put up a reasonable fight.  The raffle had its usual mix of “interesting” items, but Richard won the star prize of some Fairtrade chocolates (no prizes for guessing who donated them!), duly shared out amongst the teams.

Holy Trinity School Quiz – October 2005
Our team entered as The Hedgelayers and made a great start. This time we were up to full strength with Martin S, Martin T, Lawrence and adding a bit of sense to the team, Emily.  It remained neck and neck with the top 4 teams throughout and gave a nail-biting finale as we came in third. The evening was as entertaining as ever with the usual wonderful raffle prizes and a win on the Reverse Bingo for Martin S.  Next quiz due in March 2006 - with Richard back it only needs three more volunteers to make up another team, you don't have to be a genius - after all Lawrence is in a team! Holy Trinity School Quiz – March 2005

As defending Champions of the Holy Trinity Quiz, our team entered the March quiz under the name of the Artisans.  The pressure of defending the title got to Martin and Neil and they didn't manage to make an appearance. Lawrence could only make it to half time leaving Richard to continue on his own and the team being renamed to the Artisan.  Despite this, Richard finished in 4th place, only 10 points behind the winners.  We can only say what if? and hope that this single handed achievement will be backed up by the rest of the team in October and regain the title.  COME ON YOU ARTISANS!
