Yoxall Lodge 05.11.06

Following on from our woodland work at Yoxall Lodge last winter, we spent another day working at this delightful site – an ancient woodland on the edge of the Needwood Forest.  The main task of the day was to install a pre-constructed timber bridge over the brook, which will be part of a new walk leading from the woodland into the open fields. The bridge is constructed from solid oak, so it was a real struggle to manoeuvre it into position, even with a dozen people on the job!  We also laid down a second, much smaller, bridge and handrail to cross a small stream in the wood, using old wooden sleepers for the base.  The final tasks were the renewal of a wooden gate and boundary fence - which we didn't quite have time to finish on the day – and some path clearance work.
