Our task on our latest annual trip to the Severn Valley Country
Park near Bridgnorth was
to build a build a wooden pond-dipping platform/ boardwalk on the edge of a
secluded pond. It was a gorgeous and peaceful setting for working in - with
water-lilies, reeds, dragonflies and damselflies, and the occasional sound of
steam trains in the distance. The task
involved sawing and chiselling out large numbers of joints from huge sleepers
and some smaller cross-pieces, and then bolting the sleepers together so it
was quite a time-consuming job.
Unfortunately the two days we had there wasn't quite enough time to
finish the project, but we did get a section of about 10 metres completed and
fixed down, minus the decking which will be completed at a later date. The
platform will eventually be around 20 metres in length overall. We did
prepare some of the timber joints for the remaining sections, so hopefully
another day or two's work by other groups will see the platform completed.
We camped at the Unicorn Inn at Hampton Loade, just across
the river from the country park, and enjoyed a good barbecue on the Saturday
night, and a chocolate cake to celebrate Lawrence's birthday.
