Small Mammal Walk around Trent Washlands 19.11.06

Another excellent Small Mammal Walk, organised by East Staffs Borough Council and led by the Mammal Society, this time around the Burton Mail Centenary Woodland and Trent Washlands. In terms of the number of mammals caught in the humane traps, it didn't quite match the success rate of the previous one at Branston Water Park, but we still came across four mammals – all wood mice – in the 27 traps laid in a variety of habitats, which apparently is still above average. We also found evidence of other species, including harvest mice nests.
