MAMMAL WALK: There was a good turnout of BCV
members for the Small Mammal Walk around Branston Water
Park, organised by the
Staffordshire Mammal Society. Martin, Emily and Patrick had laid down 20
humane traps at various points around the lake the previous day, containing
a mixture of apple, maggots and bird seed.
The success rate was good: nine wood mice and one bank vole
collected from the 20 boxes, including three wood mice in one single
box! After examining the mammals,
all were released unharmed. A very
entertaining and educational walk.
